41 ‘breaches’ of Gleneagles alleged

PA Wellington HART, the national antiapartheid movement, has listed 41 alleged breaches of the Gleneagles Agreement made by New Zealand sportsmen and women since June, 1977, until the beginning of this year, says the National chairwoman of HART, Ms Pauline McKty. The list is made up of New Zealand sportsmen and teams who have competed with South Africans in South Africa and, against South Africans in other countries. Ms McKay said there might have been other breaches of the agreement that HART did not know about. HART has kept the list since 1977 and regularly passes it on to the United Nations which has a special con.mittee against apartheid, and the London--1 nsed South African NonRacial Olympic Committee.

October: New Zealand and South Africa compete in world surfboard riding championships in Hawaii; New Zealand Open squash championships attended by two South Africans.

November: New Zealand and f ath Africa compete in World Professional Golf Cup in Manila. December: New Zealand and South Africa compete in Australian Open golf championships. March, 1978: New Zealand and South Africa attend Yoga Teachers Association Congress; South African anglers compete in international angling tournament in New Zealand. April: New Zealand and South Africa compete in British Open squash championships. May: New Zealand and South Africa golfers compete in Greater Baltimore Golf Open; New Zealand and South Africa compete in Italian Open golf; New Zealand and South Africa compete in New Orleans Golf Open.
