Guiltyverdict
A . former girls’ school headmistress, Jean Harris, has been convicted of sec-ond-degree murder in the fatal shooting of the Scarsdale diet author, Dr Herman Tarnower, her lover of 14 years who had jilted her for a younger woman. The sec-ond-degree muKder conviction, which carries a mandatory . minimum sentence of 15 years to life in prison and a maximum of 25 years to life, meant the panel agreed with prosecutors who said Mrs Harris intended tp> kill the wealthy physician. She had said. she went to the house intending to kill herself but shot Tarnower five times in a struggle for the gun. — White Plains, New York.
