Liliana considers leaving Australia

She is under investigation by the Government for breaking her refugee status by returning to the Soviet Union to visit her family. Miss Gasinskaya said she was tiftd of being harrassed and was planning to leave the country. She has since become a celebrity in Australia, appearing on television shows and as a centrefold for '‘Australian Penthouse." ~ Miss Gasinskaya’s problems started with a 10-week overseas, trip last-year. A Victorian Liberal backbencher, Peter Falconer alleged m Parliament that
Miss Gasinskaya had returned to the Soviet Union during the period and travelled on a Soviet passport. He called for an. investigation into her position, reasoning that refugee status should be reserved for people who were unwilling or unable to return to their country for fear of secution.Mr Falconer said that as she could travel as she wishr. in the Soviet Union perhaps her standing should be reviewed. Foreign Affairs Department . officials have been quoted as saying Miss Gasinskaya has admitted visiting the Soviet Union. The Immigration Minister (Mr lan MacPhee) has called for a report on the matter.
