Withdraw call lost
PA Whangarei A call to take New Zealand out of the A.N.Z.U.S. defence pact was defeated at the Labour Party’s regional conference at Whangarei on Saturday. A remit urging Labour to withdraw from the defence pact if it becomes the gov-
ernment this year was defeated. Another remit put forward by the member of Parliament for Auckland Central, Mr R. W. Prebble, said that a Labour government should stay within the treaty and promote a nuclear weaponsfree zone in the South Pacific, from within the treaty.
