Thurlow wins lope
The New Zealand cross-country representative, Alan Thurlow, won- the annual Lincoln Lope 10km road race on Saturday at Lincoln, coming" within seven seconds of the record set last year by Gavin Donaldson (Christchurch). ‘ .. Thurlow’s time was 30min 48s; with a’ gap back to Ivan Shatford, who finished in 31:14.. Another fine performance was thatAof Doris Triieman (University) who shook off a strong early challenge from Olympic’s Susan Miles to win the women’s section over the same distance in 37min Ils, ju s t 10s outside the outstanding time put up by New Brighton’s Erin Baker last year. Shane Watts TSt Martins) had ho trouble in winning the boys’ under-18 road championships in a time of 35:43, while the first-year veteran, Bill Kennedy (Christchurch), recorded 33:09 to -win the veteran men’s;section from Eric Hunter (University) with 33:42. ’ Almost 200 runners faced the starter in cool, humid conditions, with the women starting three minutes before the men.
