Concert, 7.30 p.m. ‘Spectrum’ The first in this twopart story of Commander Roger Gibb concentrates on the “sea” aspect of his career. Born in Jamaica, he survived the Kingston earthquake in 1907 and then fled to England with his mother. This man was always fascinated by the sea and soon became an officer-cadet in the Navy. Later, he took part in the efforts at Gallipoli. National, 9.15 p.m. Irish favourites Tan Thompson introduces records and relays messages for New Zealand families especially requested by their friends and relations in Ireland. National, 8.30 p.m. Visiting baton The visiting Israeli conductor, Uri Segal, had the
New Zealand Symphony Orchestra under his baton for recordings in concert last season of music by Saint-Saens and Ravel. The orchestra plays the Saint-Saens Second Piano Concerto in G minor with soloist the young French pianist, Pascal Roge, and then follows with a performance of Ravel's Alborado del Gracioso (Miroirs). Then part of a recital of Faure songs from a 1974 Ottawa concert has .the soprano, Lois Marshall’ with Stuart Hamilton. piano. Finally the 8.8. C. Svmphony can be heard in excerpts from the last night of the London Proms at the Albert Hall recorded in 1972 with Colin Davis conducting and vocal soloists the soprano Jessye Norman and mezzo Elizabeth Bainbridge.
