The board’s area population is 46,000 with 17,000 less than 15 years of age, in whom chronic car infection and deafness is a major health prob--1 of ear/deafness clinics for children has been established at Whakatane and Op o tiki Hospitals and at the Kawerau, Ruatoki and Te Teko family clinics, jointly with the Department of Health. A caravan clinic is available for more remote areas. Modern surgical facilities with an operating microscope and diagnostic microscopes for clinics and caravan are available. While the appointment is designed to complete the board’s current child ear-deafness pro-, gramme, duties would include provision of a full range of specialist E.N.T. services to the eastern Bay of Plenty for the period of the tenure.
