Japanese survey Antarctica
PA Wellington A party . of Japanese scientists has left Wellington after completing a 30days survey of part of the Antarctic seabed for Japan’s National Oil Corporation. The 21 scientists left their survey ship, flying home to follow up their geological and geophysical surveys.
The chief scientist, Mr Tadashi Alsakawa, said the formation of the Antarctic was similar to those of oil-producing areas. The survey was not aimed specifically at oil. “Japan has been consuming a great deal of oil,” Nr Asakawa said. “We feel a responsibility to contribute to the development of technology in finding oil rescources. “So Japan surveys in many places in the world as well as the Antarctic. All these surveys are. published. Japan wants to contributv and receive information to attain natural resources,”
