Industrial shares were firmer on Australian stock exchanges yesterday, but metal miners and most oil and gas issues were easier, selected issues attracting attention in the absence of substantial overseas purchases.' ■ The Australian-all-ordi-naries index was 0.9 point higher at . 651.9 the allindustrials was up one point to a year high of 684.2, and the oil and gas index was down 3.5 points to 841.5. Yesterday’s highlight was the bidding for the retailer Walton, which • closed 5c higher at 111 c with earlier trades to 112 c as an uri-. known . buyerimproved on Bond Corporation’s on-mar-ket offer, of 110 c a share. Volume totalled more than 530,000 shares.
CGFA, which announced merger plans with three majority-owned subsidiaries was untraded, although seller quotes were up 10c at 670 c Mt Lyell was also untraded,. Renison was steady at 960 c, and; Associated Minerals added 30c to 230 c.
