Suspect ‘feared death’
NZPA Sydney | A New Zealander had feared that his hands would be cut off if he told the police about heroin found in a flat in March, 1980, the Sydney Court of Petty Sessions has been told. Detective Senior Constable Vincent Conant, of the Australian Federal Police, recounted how 19 small plastic bags of heroin had been found in the Darlinghurst flat. He said that the defendant, Glen Hans Andersen,
aged 25, had been asked i aF .ut the heroin. [ At first he had replied, “I i can’t: it looks like you get, me but I had better talk to a | solicitor first.” ; However Andersen had! then asked to be taken to al bedrooni in. the flat where he had said, ‘‘Can’t say anything abou' that in there. If I talk I get my hands cut off. You know what I mean. I would be better copping it sweet and doing my time: at least I would be alive.” Andersen, formerly of Auckland, faces charges of
[possessing 178 g of heroin, [ reasonably suspected of having been imported, and also I of supplying heroin. Committal hearings began [yesterday and are expected [to last until tomorrow. No ipleas have been entered. I Three other summary charges against Andersen, namely possessing four pistol silencers without a permit, possessing 82228 in cash reasonably suspected of having been stolen or unlawfully obtained, and possession of Indian hemp were stood over.
