Trainer sounds warning about Powley’s chance
Special correspondent Dunedin A warning about Powley’s chance in the Otago Mannequin Stakes tomorrow was sounded yesterday by her trainer and owner, Hect.or Anderton, sen. “I will just have to run her and take pot luck. She could badly need the race” said Anderton, who is fai from happy with Powley. He has been working her at Mosgiel Park and restricted her to easy work yesterdaj morning.
Powley is attempting to advance her lead in the Broadlands “Filly of the Year” series. She could be hard pressed to contain The Dimple, which has won four of her last five starts. Her most recent victory was in the Princess Mellay Stakes. 1800 m, at Gore three weeks ago. Mellseur was scratched from tomorrow’s Galaxy Stakes after she worked at Wingatui yesterday morning She will be spelled for a month.
“She is just not right but I don’t know exactly what is wrong with her” said Hector Anderton jun., her trainer. “I will give her a month off and then bring her back and prepare her for the Winter Cup.” Opal Prince, a fit candidate for the Outram Maiden tomorrow, ran 1200 metres yesterday on the plough in Imin 15'.4s the last 1000 with Noble Boa in lmin 3.3 s and 800 m in 51s. Denosera drew six lengths clear of Dellana at the finish
of 1200 m in lmin 17.95, the last 800 m in 52.75. Denosera will not be the least of chances in the Allanton Hurdles.
King Kaka and Irish Note came home from the 600 m in 38s. King Kaka looks a home run at Orari on Tuesday. Ta Tay and Princelesf Fortune. which returned similar times, should both be prominent in their races tomorrow.
