N.Z. bowler beaten
NZPA Glasgow The New Zealand bowler, John Murtagh, was defeated by a Canadian, David Duncalf. at the Embassy world indoors bowls championship at Coatbridge yesterday. The 40-year-old Paritutu player went down, 13-21, to Duncalf. who played bowls in Cheshire before migrating to Canada. Duncalf, the Canadian champion, is in the same
group as David Bryant, the defending world champion, and the British Isles indoors champion. Billy McKelvey, from Belfast.
Bryant beat McKelvey, 2118, but the Irishman fought every inch of the way, staving off defeat in the final stages, by burning ends and drawing well. But Bryant’s steadiness under pressure enabled him to hold off the Irishman.
