Board staff at steady level
Staff employed by the Lyttelton Harbour Board totals 383. according to a recent report by the general manager. Mr J. A. McPhail. This is an increase of only one over the number employed at the end of the 1979-80 financial year and seven above the figures recorded in January, 1960. Of the total number of staff employed at January 18 this year, 33 were salaried personnel not covered by awards or industrial agreements. This compares with 31 at the same time a year ago. The number of pilots employed remained at seven and there was a decease of one in the number of clerical staff employed: 18 as at January 18, compared with 19 a ve.r ago. Cargo plant drivers totalled 65 this year, compared with 61 a vear ago. and floating plant staff totalled 42. as compared with 43 in 1980. The harbourmaster’s shore staff remained at 16, while the works staff was increased from 166 to 168. The container terminal staff, caid Mr McPhail, had Increased from 34 to 36, as compared with the same time a year ago. The board has declined an cation from Tony Chimes (Soft Freeze), Ltd, to sell cream freeze, milk shakes, soda shakes, and .similar products in the ear parks near the Lyttelton wharves.
