Quality Romneys sell well at Tinwald fair

Better quality sheep sold very well at the third strong wool two-tooth ewe fair at Tinwald yesterday when the yarding comprised more than 16,000 Romneys, but fine woolled and later shorn sheep were hard to sell. Quality over all was very good with some outstanding lines being offered. The fair began before only a small gallery and although it built up slightly later, it fell off again in the concluding stages. There were some passings during the day and, although some of these sheep were subsequently sold privately, some also had to go home unsold. The top money was $34 for 50 Romneys from Carr Brothers (Lismore). Another good sale was made by Stra-

thaon Farm (Methven) which realised $33.50 for 189 sheep. The following is the range of prices: Romney, early shorn — tops, $3O to $34; good, $26 to $29; medium to good, $23 to $25.50; medium, $2l to $22.75; small, $16.50 to $2O. Romney, late shorn — tops, $26 to $2B; good, $24 to $25.50; medium, $2O to $23; small to medium, $17.50 to $19.50, Among the better sales were: A. M. Barwell (Montalto), 141 at $25.50; Sewell Brothers (Mayfield), 55 at $22.25; Happy Valley Partnership (Highbank), 180 at $3O and 117 at $3l; James Kerr (Mayfield), 194 at $23; S. W.
