N.Z.er gets award nomination for film script
NZPA Auckland A New Zealand scriptwriter, Jonathan Hardy, has been nominated for an Academy Award in the United States. Mr Hardy, . artistic director of the Mercury Theatre, Auckland, and cowriter, David Stevens are in the running for the award for best film script for the Australian film, “Breaker Morant.” Jonathan Hardy says he was “astounded” at the thought of reaching even the nominations for ah award. Congratulatory telephone calls from Australia have been pouring in. He said- that people in the Australian film industry ■were excited that an Australian feature film had made the nominations for the first time. “Breaker Morant,” the true story of a controversial court-martial of Australian soldiers in the Boer war, has already collected several awards. It won all 10 sections of the Australian Film Institute Awards last year, collected the best supporting actor award for Jack Thompson at Cannes Film Festival, and was chosen as the Royal Command Performance film.
