Improved price plan for slipe wools
; :-PA •: Timaru . The Wool Board is considering taking action to ■■improve prices farmres are receiving for slipe wools. The chairman of the board, Mr J. D. Mcllraith, of Hakataramea, said that the board was concerned about the prices fanners were being paid. “Much of this wool is scoured and loses its identity as slipe wool. The board has no mechanics to put a bottom in the market for slipes,” Mr Mcllraith said.
Mr Mcllraith said the board was concerned that freezing companies for liquidity reasons, put large quantities of the' wool on the market as weak sellers and thereby lower th? prices received by growers for shorn lambs’ wool at auctidn. “The board is therefore evaluating the whole situation with regard to the disposal of slipe wool and will, in .consultation with the Meat Board, consider whether any action Is desirable in the interests of the wool industry, of New Zealand,” he said.
