Deadline for closing of Alford mill
| PA Ashburton ) The Alford Forest textile ! mill at Ashburton will definitely close at the end of April, according to the mill’s manager, Mr J. G. Thomson, yesterday. “That is definite. We have enough work to keep us going until the end of April,” he said. The mill’s owner, Alliance Textiles, Ltd, had intended to close it in March, but an examination of orders had
disclosed that there was enough work to last through April. Mr Thomson said. “We have already told the staff.” he said. “Everybody knows that there is no hope of the mill’s staying open,” he said. However, morale at the mill was surprisingly high. About 70 mill workers will be made redundant when the factory closes its doors. Most have failed to find other work.
