Corriedale ewes sell well
Addington Market
Only the best ewes offered in the store sheep sale at Addington yestrday were in demand. A big proportion of the lighter sheep yarded showed obvious signs of the dry spell Canterbury has experienced and consequently sold at rates well below the better sheep.
Corriedales had a particularly good day. Two-tooths often exceeded $2O and the better-quality aged ewes made more than $l5. However, a ■fair number of very light Corriedales Were offered and these seldom exceeded $lO. Crossbred values were not quite up to the level set at the Oxford and Little Riverj ewe fairs but the better] types sold steadily. Romney, two-tooths were in demand and made to $26 — this for a well presented line of Romney cross offered by the Ellesmere A. and P. Association. Most Romneys sold between $lB.lO and $2l. Coopworths and Perendales were slightly behind this. A lot of “rape” strongwoolled ewes in very light condition were yarded and thcsfc wsre difficult to sell because of feed shortages. The lamb yarding was of indifferent quality. A big proportion would have to be carried over until next spring before'they grew to a exportable size. _ ’ . . •Mainly Halfbred lambs were offered and these, plus the other breeds offered, sold about the same rates as last week. Some were down to So and $6. ~ The buying power over-all Was about the same as previous weeks although a bigger gdilery than usual was in attendance. . The vardings were 680 e\x e lathbs 7833 last week), 4/81
