Banks dispute
Sir, — After reading the note on my trading bank door during the bank strike, J became annoyed. It stated that the management could not be held responsible for the strikers’ action. The management is displaying a “passing the buck” attitude because they encouraged the employment of union labour in the first place. In fact when starting a bank job, an employee is urged by management to join the union without any free choice in the matter. This wanton display of management support of unions is a major factor in the mob action strategy which is destroying our economy. What New Zealand needs is persons in management with a “Brubaker” type attitude who are willing to stand by principles of individual freedom come hell or high water, e.g. insisting that an employee be allowed the freedom to not belong to a union and still keep his job. — Yours, etc PETER JOHNSON.
