Women boost fire brigade

The manpower problem faced by tire Rolleston Volunteer Fire Brigade was lessened when 12 women came forward, councillors were told at a meeting of the Ellesmere County Council. Only two men had been available for the brigade during the. day, and 15 at night, said Cr W. T. Simpson. Then 12 women had come forward, five of whom had been accepted for the brigade. They had already been to two or three fires.

DEMOLITION ORDER The council has issued a ’demolition order on a house on the outskirts of Leeston which it considers is a danger to children. RESTRICTIONS CUT The chances of getting a speeding ticket near Leeston will be lessened soon, as four 50 km/h areas will be taken nearer to town.

The areas to be reduced were on the boundary of Leestorr, but there were no houses there, said Cr J. S. Free. The Ministry of Transport had recommended the changes, he said. The 50 km/h restrictions .on Feredays Road, Lake Road, the LeestonDunsandel Road, and the Leeston-Lincoln Road will all be reduced.
