Socred support prediction
PA Palmerston North .The Social Credit leader (Mr Beetham) has predicted that he will retain his Rangitikei seat in November with a substantially bigger majority than he gained in 1978. He said this in response to assertions made by the Prime. Minister (Mr Muldoon) and the Minister of Lands (Mr V. S. Young) that National would regain Rangitikei. - “Mr Muldoon’s credibility as an-accurate forecaster.,of Rangitikei results was shot to pieces in
November, 1978, when he predicted that I would lose, the seat by 1000 votes. “In the event I actually increased my majority to almost 3000 votes, and so the Prime Minister was astray by 4000, a big error of judgment on his part,” said Mr Beetham. He said that if Mr Muldoon could be so wrong when the league’s national support was only 15 per cent, it was likely to be doubly faulty now that the league’s public support had doubled to more than 30 per cent.
