General forecasts:— Cloudy over the South Island, with areas of drizzle in the east, probably clearing for a time. However more general rain is expected in Westland, with some heavy showers likely on the West Coast. . District forecasts:— Canterbury: Cloudy, and cool with areas of dirrzle, but some sunny intervals in the afternoon, especially inland; asteries. Nelson: Mainly fine and mild but cloudy at first, and again late today, moderrate easterlies tending north-easterly.

Marlborough: Cloudy with areas of drizzle on the Kaikoura coast; otherwise fine and mild. Buller: Mainly fine and mild; moderate north-easter-lies. Westland: Cloudy and cool with occasional rain, possibly becoming heavy at times; fresh north-easter-lies.

Outlook: Mainly dry over the North Island; cloudy over the South Island, with showers in the west and south, and some morning drizzle in the east.
