Top man on the job
Wellington reporter ■ New Zealand’s chief veterinary officer, Dr George Adlam, will be on hand when the samples from the Dennis farm arrive at the Animal Viruses Research Institute at Pirbright. Dr Adlam has been at an international conference in Paris. The conference was that of the Organisation Internationale Epizootique, an organisation of chief veterinary officers from throughout the world concerned with exotic diseases, such as foot-and-mouth disease. It is under the 0.1. E. agreements that the outbreak has been reported to New Zealand’s trading partners and other 0.1. E. members. Dr Adlam will fly to Britain and be present at Pirbright when the samples are submitted for diagnosis. The samples are being escorted by a Ministry of Agriculture livestock officer, Mr J. Napier, who will fly by way of the United States and arrive in Britain on Saturday morning, New Zealand time.
