Late sport National 'women’s bowls results

PA Dunedin Etluiie Stallard (Coronation, Nelson) may not have won her semi-finals singles match against Noeline Scott. (Cromwell) but she has the satisfaction of. achieving the best result by a Nelson centre player for 20 years at the New Zealand Women’s Bowling Championships today. . Mrs Scott, the winner of the title four years ago, won the game, 20-17, by scaring three on the extra end. Rhoda Ryan (Matamata) revealed her stamina as well as her technical skill by playing her fourth game of the day and beating Denise Page (Linwood), 20-15, in the quarter-finals of the singles. ■ It -is unusual for any player to be asked to play more than three games a day in a national championships when it includes two games of pairs and Mrs Ryan must have been tired going into her final game, but she was in such good touch after comfortably beating.. Marie Watson (Linwood), ■ ,2Q-8, ■ that she volunteered to play the extra game. Barbara Kunicich (Bayswater), who,won the title in 1978. will play Mrs. Ryan-in the semi-final this morning. .-"She beat Betty Fitzeli (Matamata) comfortably in the-semi-final; • • * s The unset in the pairs came when Mrs Ryan . was beaten, 18-16, by a fellow New Zealand representative, Joj)ce Osborne (Manawatu). Mrs Osborne Basi.a'. touch, of class in her play and revealed it when scoring a four on the final end of her fourth'round game to beat Judy Howat (Wellington), 18-17. But in the semi-final, against Margaret- Walker (Lower Hutt),

Mrs Osborne was unable to master the tricky wind and was beaten. 19,11, after trailing for the entire game.
