Gold Bullion chosen for Egmont today
Special correspondent. New Plymouth Gold Bullion looked a jhade unlucky when fourth it Wanganui last time out md with better fortune ioday he could beat what is generally considered a fairly mediocre field in The Egnont Cup at Hawera. Gold Bullion was having bis first run for over a nonth at Wanganui. It teems certain he will imsroVe with the outing and thould take beating in the first leg of the Egmont Racing Club’s T.A.B. double.
The Hawera trainer Peter Moseley will have a strong band in the event if he starts both his runners Bri-gadier-and Blue Defence. The pair have been racing well and on their home track will attract solid support. . ■ There has been plenty of support for China in his recent Starts and if his rider elects to ride him' close to the pace he should be hard to beat.
Get The Rent and Floodlight the place-getters in a small field at Wanganui on Saturday are worth consideration again on what is their home circuit.
The Bulls seven-year-old St Johann makes most apthe talented Banco- at the peal in the second leg the Apprentice Handicap an event for intermediate sprinters. St Johann has raced generously in his recent starts having won at Awapuni, finished a good fourth at Tauherenikau and beaten all but the talented Banco at the Ashhurst meeting. Northern trainers almost invariably take home their share of spoils from Hawera hare of spoils from Hawera meetings. Among their entries today are the Wanganui winner Elmar,- Look Hither and Be Mine. The pick of the group would, obviously be Elmar. Great Response the likely favourite continued his good form with a win on the first
day at Wanganui. However his winning margin was narrow and it was a poor field he beat.
