Sale of site
The two-acre site of the Blackwell Motors’, Manchester Street workshop and vehicle showroom will be put up for sale in about three months. Having taken over the N.Z. Farmers’ Co-oper-ative Association franchises in Christchurch and the Farmer’s vehicle workshop in Cashel Street, Blackwells will take about two months from March 2 to move equipment from Manchester Street. The general manager of Plackwells, Mr S. G. Withers, said yesterday that the Farmers’ truck workshop and paint and panel workshop in Fitzgerald Avenue, and the General Motors heavy truck dealership would be valuable additions to Blackwell’s services. “The Fanners’ covered site at the Madras and Cashel Street intersection is about one and a quarter acres,” said Mr Withers. “The workshop on our present site is about 22.000 square feet and the rest of the building has a 5000 sq ft showroom and 5000 sq ft parts store”.
