Diabetes is a widespread disturbance of the blood, and at least every fifth diabetic is dependent on a daily injection of insulin for the rest of his or her life. Now a West German company has devised new programmed insulin-dosage device capable of adjusting the amount of insulin transferred to the body automatically, triggered by its measurement of changes in blood-sugar levels. The device as worn under clothing and has a micropump to transfer insulin to the body when needed.
