“Doing foreigners”
Sir, — It was sad to read in “The Press” on Friday, February 6, the casual and open admission by a union spokesman that dishonesty, or "doing foreigners” is widespread in -the labour force. It must indeed be so if. a slang term has been coined for such offences. Could this be the reason why the Government wishes to employ private contractors for the Clutha scheme? Do the dishonest ones realise that they are ’ not ripping off the Government, but their own people? We, the tax-payers, are being robbed. The 'trade union leaders would win the support and gratitude of most New Zealanders.if they fought for more honesty in workmanship and behaviour .from their work force, instead of for more money — always more money. — Yours, etc.,.; E. MARTIN. February 6, 1981./
