Head cut from body
PA • Napier A Wairoa man found dead last July had been decapitated, a lower court hearing at Wairoa was told yesterday. Appearing at a depositions hearing charged with murder is a man, aged 20. Judge Rice ordered interim suppression of his name. The Gisborne Crown prosecutor, Mr T. G. Stapleton, told the court that the dead man had been attacked with an axe or tomahawk and his head severed. The decapitated head was found among bedclothes on the defendant’s bed in the same house. The hearing is expected to take three days.
