PA Whakatane As a result of the research by Australian former soldiers into .the use of several defoliant chemicals, including Agent Orrange, five New Zealand former soldiers have already agreed to take part with 'their Australian counterparts, in legal action against the manufacturers.of the chemicals. Mr Victor Johnson, of Whakatane. national secretary of the Korea and South-East Asia Forces Association of New Zealand, described as devas-
tating the evidence produced by Mr William MacMillen, the Australian counsel for the veterans, at a meeting at Whakatane on Sunday. It confirmed the gaps in local research showing that New Zealanders had been in one of the most heavily defoliated areas in Vietnam, Mr Johnson said. He emphasised the need for serious action to relieve the medical problems suffered by veterans and to promote recognition of the fact: that the effects are from defoliants.
