Boy saved by dog
NZPA Nottingham A boy, aged seven, was saved from the freezing waters of a reservoir lake at Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, by a dog. The boy, Allan Martin, fell into the water from a jetty. His stepfather. Mr Ronald Muers, was too far away to help, and instead immediately shouted “Find” to his eight-month-. old German-bred Rottweiler dog. It was the word he used when he wanted the dog to retrieve pieces of wood
from the lake. The dog ran to the edge of the lake, plunged in and swam 25m to the boy, who grabbed the dog’s collar and was towed safely to shore. “Troy (the dog) certainly saved Allan’s life.” Mr Muers said later. “The lad was wearing Wellington boots and heavy clothing. In another few seconds he would have sunk. “I was 135 m away, too far to do anything, and the dog was our only chance.” .
