Holiday savings lost

A Gisborne couple lost their holiday savings of $3OO in Christchurch yesterday when their small daughter, aged two, apparently dropped in Armagh Street a purse containing the money. The couple were staying at tlie home of Miss Jackie Johnstone in Armagh Street. The $3OO was to have paid for their return trip home. However, their daughter had picked up the purse from a table inside the

house and had walked outside with it, said Miss Johnstone yesterday. According to an onlooker the purse was snatched from the child by two men who then boarded a bus which stopped briefly at a bus stop outside the house. However, the driver of the

bus telephoned the couple to sav that the only persons he took aboard during the whole of his jour--ney yesterday were a man and a woman with their own child. Miss Johnstone said that the child had presumably dropped the purse outside

the house or outside the gate and it had been picked up by a passer-by. She had reported the incident to the police, but they had been unable to find witnesses. She asked anybody who might have seen the purse to approach the police.
