Shopping brisk at Brighton
-Crowds of holidaymakers kept “shops at New Brighton "humming” on Saturday and business was reported to be almost as brisk as the preChristmas rush.
Mr P. C. Sheppard, an executive member of the New Brighton District Business Association, said most shops were open until 6.30 p.m., “It was a wonderful holiday atmosphere,” he said.
Mr Sheppard, who owns Soundwaves record shops at New Brighton and Merivale Mall, said that although crowds were also attracted to Merivale Mall, shoppers did not seem to be spending as much as at New Brighton. . The manager of Merivale Mall, Mr A. F. Price, could not be reached last evening for comment.
