Course packed
Member of the committee of the Banks Peninsula Club were apprehensive about the likely outcome of their promotion for Saturday’s meeting, but they had no cause for concern. The course was packed by a crowd of 7558, as well as an estimated 5000 or 6000 children, who were
entertained for much of the day. Last year when the club raced just before Christmas the crowd numbered 3720.
The holiday crowd did not bet as heavily as usual, but the on-course total of $294,332 exceeded the highest hopes of the committee and was an increase of $61,730 over last year.
