U.S. hostages

Sir, — By calling the Iranian authorities “criminals” for continuing to hold innocent American hostages, the minority-elected next President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, is repeating his successful formula of telling the American people what they want to hear, rather than anything which is nearer the truth. Americans should be asked by Reagan, why they are so obviously and deeply hated by so many Iranians. They should be asking themselves why they continue to elect : (that is — the 50 per cent who bother to vote) politicians who are servants of multi-nationals and not. as Thomas Jefferson hoped, “servants of people.”- Iran _ was manipulated and exploited by the United States for years, and its hated Shah restored to his peacock th)one in 1953 by the C.I.A. Iranians never forgot, or forgave, that betrayal, and now innocent hostages pay the price of past United Sta es greed, inter e-ence and cynicism. — \'o :rs. etc., - ‘ M. T. MOORE.
