A home truth
The National Council of Churches’ Christmas Appeal which provides overseas aid, has not been well received by one New Zealander, the Press Association reports. Returning an empty “Lighten the Load" appeal envelope, the person writes: “How about lightening my load? I could do with a handout. I don’t want to sound critical but I wouldn’t mind a handout as Christmas is on its way.” The Rev. Brian Turner, of the N.C.C. believes the request could be genuine as the person provided a name and address. . Mr Turner has asked a minister in the correspondent’s
town to offer assistance. “Charity should start at home but not stop at home,” said Mr Turner.
