Aparangi’s yacht race
Aparangi, skippered by Dave Gallagher and Rod Johnstone, took line and handicap honours, in the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club’s Lyttelton to Akaroa yacht race yesterday.
A total of 15 boats took part in -the annual' event, which was raced in a -steady 10-15 knot north-easterly breeze. Visibility was poor for much of the.- race, the yachts having no sight of land until they, had passed Le Boris Bay. . < / . . . ' ( ? Keith Drayton’s Bootlegger was leading as the boats entered Akaroa heads, but a fresh easterly -came up, enabling Aparangi to take over -first-' place. • Crusade (Alan and' Warwick Archer) finished second on line honours, narrowly ahead of Bootlegger.
