Joseph Pawelka story
The events which led in 1910 to Joseph Pawelka’s trial on charges of murder, theft, and arson are among the most curious in the annals of New Zealand crime. The decision of the Supreme Court set alight a countrywide controversy. It was Pawelka himself who put an end to the agitation by escaping from Wellington’s Terrace prison. He was never heard of again and is still listed as “wanted.” Tomorrow’s “Spectrum,” on the National programme at 9.15 a.m. tells the Pai welka story. CRICKET
Commentary by Alan Richards for Radio New Zealand on the second and third days of the first test between .New Zealand and Australia at Brisbane will be broadcast as the main
event on “Sports Roundup” this week-end from the YC network. Most regional stations will join the YCs and "Sports Roundup” at 7.30 p.m. tomorrow and at 8 p.m. on Sunday, and will also have intervals of the sports programme earlier in the day. The Concert programme will resume at 9.10 p.m. on both days. NOSTALGIA Graeme Thomson is host of the National programme’s Saturday evening entertainment compiled for the entertainment of older listeners.. Listeners’ requests will be played throughout the evening in “Scrapbook”. At 9 p.m. tomorrow one of the classic Paul Temple thriller serials begins. These Francis Durbridge serials, familiar to radio listeners in the past, have attracted a new audience in recent years through television productions of
some of the mystery stories. This particular thriller from the 8.8. C. is “Too Young to Die” and has Peter Coke as Paul Temple t and Marjorie Westbury as his wife, Steve. The story concerns the death of a well-known London publisher in a car accident while on a business trip to Geneva. His wife, convinced he is alive, asks Paul Temple to make inquiries. Temple is warned by an old friend not to get involved. In spite of this — and an attempt on Steve’s life — they go ahead and find themselves faced with one of their most intriguing cases. DEBUSSY
