C.C.C. on fluoride

Fluoridation will be discussed again by the new Christchurch City Council, and a referendum may be held, in line with the Labour Party’s campaign policy. The health and general committee adopted the suggestion of Cr A. J. Graham yesterday and called for a complete report on the costs and other issues surrounding fluoridation and chlorination of the city’s water supply. Cr Graham said the council might prefer to avoid debating the issue again, but had to be realistic in recognising that somebody was bound to approach it with a proposal in the next few years. Cr A. H. Clark said any approach should Il J an early one, instead or some organisation waiting until shortly before an election. Some councillors, steadfastly .opposed to fluoridation, disagreed. Cr Noala Massey said there were more. important issues, and the council did not have the money to fluoridate in any case.
