PA Wellington Another big fall in home construction 'was announced yesterday. Basing his assessment on early returns from local authorities and allowing for Government work, the Government Statistician (Dr J. H. Darwin) estimated that building permits for 1248 hew dwellings were issued for October last This is a decrease of 18.2 per cent over the actual figure of 1525 for October last year. In October, 1978, 1795
dwelling permits (1288 houses and 507 flats) were issued; in October 1979, there were 1525 permits (1221 .houses'and 304 flats); and in October this year the estimated total was 1248 (973 houses and 275 flats). For the year ended October, 1278, the total of permits was 19,393 (13,665 houses and 5728 flats); for the year' to October, 1979, the total was 16,475 (12,320 houses and 4155 flats);and for the year to Otctober last the total was 14,745 (11,467 houses and 3278 flats).
