General 'orecast: The strong westerly flow over New Zealand will continue to give cloudy skies to northern and western districts with outbreaks of rain. The cold front in the south Tasman Sea is moving rapidly eastwards and a cold, showery south-west change should spread showers along the east coast • during the day, with the rain in the west easing. District forecasts Canterbury: Fresh gusty north-westerlies inland with periods of rain and mild northerlies near the coast with only scattered rain; change later to fresh,

cool south-westerlies with some showers. Nelson: Fresh westerlies predominating; rain in the west, but mainly showery elsewhere. Marlborough: Mild northwesterlies, strong in exposed places, skies often cloudy with showers becoming more widespread. Buller, Westland: Strong westerlies and rain, with some heavy falls likely; a change to fresh, cold south-westerlies spreading north with the rain easing to showers.

Outlook: Unsettled with showers in most districts.
