Lelbume Louise Brabazon, the New Zealand lifetime production record holder for both milk and fat, has been officially retired, according to information received from her owner, Mrs Udy. Still fit and well at 20 years of age, Louise Brabazon has completed her final lactation after calving her fifteenth calf in February’ 1979. As a 19-year-old she produced 7287 litres milk, with a 4.4 per cent test and 318 kg of fat in 305 days, and continued on to produce a further 58 kg of fat in 103 days before her retirement.

Louise Brabazon’s lifetime totals now stand at 318,830 lb milk, a 4.4 per cent average test and 13,696 lb of fat in 5219 days, figures that rank her among the world’s top bracket of lifetime producers.

To better illustrate her lifetime figures, Louise Brabazon averaged more than six gallons of milk every’ day for 5219 days or the equivalent of more than 14 years, resulting in a grand total of 142 tons of milk. v
