No plea taken on theft charge
A . salesman alleged to have stolen $2OOO in cash from his employer was remanded without plea to December 3 when he appeared before Judge Bisphan in the District Court yesterday.
It is alleged that while employed by a Christchurch car sales firm, Peter Hapeta Matthews, aged 25, stole the money. The alleged offence is said to have taken place on October 18. Sergeant M. P. Caldwell said in the absence of a surety “substantial” self-bail and daily reporting was sought. Matthews (Mr D. J. Taffs) was granted bail of $lOOO and ordered to report daily to the police. THEFT CHARGE
An American charged with stealing various items of property, to a total value of $965, was remanded to December 3 without plea. Louis Adrian Coutere, aged 59, unemployed, was allowed bail of $lOOO.
The property belonged to his employer. Bon Brushes, Ltd.
The alleged offence was
said to have been committed between May 15 and November 10 this year. THEFT ALLEGED Dennis Wilkinson, aged 133, unemployed was rejmanded without plea to December 3 on a charge of theft. He was allowed bail of $lOOO. It is alleged that Wilkinson stole a stereo unit, two I radios, a radio cassette, and a colour television set to a total value of $2144, the property of Canterbury Holdings, Ltd. The goods are alleged to have been stolen between May and September, 1978. CHARGE DENIED A housewife charged with receiving two rings, to a total value of $3950, was remanded to January 15 for a defended hearing. Suzanne Dawn Gray, aged 29, (Mr N. Dunlop), is alleged to have committed the offence on October 9. Bail was set at $l5OO. Gray is alleged to have received from Tania Pope al solitaire diamond 18-carat gold ring, valued at $2500, and an 18-carat gold ring.
