Crocodiles top billing
The Crocodiles will have' top billing at Sunday afternoon’s outdoor concert at Jellie.Park, organised by the North Christchurch chapter of the Jaycees. . The show will begin at 3 p.m„ with Pop Mechanix on first, The Newz second, and the Crocodiles last The concert is timed to finish, at 6 p.m. Unlike last year, when the organisers were not expecting the influx of 5000 b(1500 was expected)
better facilities have been set up including between 10 and 12 portable toilets. Stalls will sell hot pies, ice-cream, and soft drink. Security will be! in the hands of about 40 Jaycees, 12 private security guards, and the police. Residents around the park’s perimeter were told of the, impending Sunday concert by leaflets placed in letterboxes by the Jaycees last Sunday and Monday, said John Sandri, a member of the- organising committee.
A similar concert organised by the Jaycees last, year roused the ire of residents because of the noise from the rock groups. This year a decibel meter will be placed, somewhere on the perime- * ter of the park to ensure that sound levels meet the . requirements set down by the Waimariri County Council. Admission is §3, and the money collected -will go towards a youth-, oriented charity venture
in the north-west area of . Christchurch. The organisation to benefit from the . money was yet to be decided, John Sandri said. The Redwood Scout Group benefited from the * outdoor -concert last year to, the tune of $4OOO, which went towards building a new scout den at Sturrocks Road. The concert has been underwritten 50 per cent by the North Christchurch Jaycees and 3ZM.
