Shipping News Tanker waits for strike to end
The Mobil oil tanker Sachem, loaded with petrol and aviation fuel, remained at anchor yesterday off the Lyttelton Heads awaiting a settlement of the oil storemen’s dispute w-hich has prevented her berthing and discharging. „ \ .. , The usual Customs, medical, and crew relief operations have been, carried out' from- Lyttelton by launch to the anchored 18,245ton vessel. The Sachem is scheduled to discharge 5 million litres of premium petrol at Lyttelton, along with 4 million litres of aviation jet fuel. Fully loaded, she arrived at Lyttelton on Saturday, direct from Singapore. Her fully-laden draught is such that she must await clearance to enter Lyttelton Harbour to discharge a portion of her cargo as, no other port can accommodate her even if she were allowed to discharge cargo.
