Ripper message ‘a hoax’
NZPA Leeds A tape-recorded message, ; urporting io come from the Yorkshire Ripper and threatening to kill his fourteenth victim in Leeds on Friday, was a hoax, the police have said.
; The threat was telephoned (to a newspaper office by a man with a „ north-east accent. He said he was the Ripper and would strike ag-ain somewhere in Leeds on Friday.
“The man who sent it is just one more among the dozens of cranks and nutcases who have wasted our time on this inquiry ” a senior detective said. “We have no doubt it is a fake.” The mother of Jacqueline Hill, who was killed by the Ripper in Leeds last week, i went on TV yesterday and .pleaded with people everyiwhere to join the manhunt. | Mrs Doreen Hill wept as (she asked for help in tracking down the killer.
