Freedom of information conference
Secrecy laws in New Zealand and the broad issue of freedom of information 'will be the subject of a- special conference at Wellington next ■ month. The conference has been organised by the Association of Scientists, . and other groups. It will comprise a .series of addresses, including talks and comment by the former Ombudsman (Sir Guy Powles) and the members of Parliament for Hamilton West (Mr M. J. Minogue) and Christchurch Central (Mr G. W. R. Palmer). Three panel sessions will deal with present secrecy laws, approaches to freedom of information, and privacy. These will be followed by a series of workshops to discuss “tactics and strategy.” C o m m u n i t y action groups, the trade unions, the legal profession, women’s organisations, consumers, business groups, the news media, and other professional groups will be represented. The conference will start on December 6 and conclude the next day.
