Radio pioneer dies
PA Dunedin A pioneer of New Zealand radio. Mr Peter Dawson, 8.E.M., has died suddenly at his home in Dunedin.
Mr Dawson was a foundation announcer on the newly established commercial station, 4ZB, in Dunedin, where he is best remembered for his chi!-
dren’s and breakfast sessions and hfc creation, “The Mayor of White Island.” He also dramatised, wrote, and produced hundreds of plays for radio.
conducted choirs and concerts, and wrote several published songs. He retired from 4ZB in 1963 and was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1975.
