New jury called in murder trial
The jury hearing a murder trial which opened in the High Court at Rotorua on Monday was discharged yesterday morning and a new trial ordered. The trial judge. Mr Justice Hardie Boys, told the jury that one of its members had brought to his attention the fact that he had knowledge of one of the people involved in the case. “I have given full consideration to this, and after discussion with counsel, f have decided to discharge you as a jury. ' “This is no reflection on the’ juror concerned and it was proper for him to bring
this matter to the attention of the Court.” His Honour said he would therefore discharge the jury and order a new trial at the next jury sessions. Mason Turapganui Mamma has denied a charge of murdering Alan David Turner at Taupo on August IG. and Paul Patterson, aged 21 a bushman, of Whakatane. Adrian Ngamotu, aged 17. a post cutter, of Taupo, and Alan John Heagney, aged 17. unemployed, of Tokoroa. have also denied being accessories after the fact of murder, and an alternative charge of offering an indiginity to a human body.
