Saleswoman forged certificates
A former sales representative for Universal Homes, Ltd, has admitted six offences of forging certificates of earnings. Before Judge Callander in the District Court at Auckland, Judith Kay Haise, paged 27, a packer, of Christchurch, was convicted and remanded to December 8 for a probation report and sentence on $750 bail. Sergeant T. J. Horne said the six charges concerned certificates of earnings in the names of people buying homes from Universal Homes, Ltd. He said prospective house buyers were entitled to a. concessional interest rate for mortgage money and advances by the
Housing Corporation provided their incomes conformed with criteria set down by the corporation. Sergeant Horne said that as part of Haise’s duties, when selling a new house she was requited to obtain the certificates of earnings from the employers of the prospective buyers. the certificates were then sent to the Housing Corporation or to the Social Welfare Department, or both, with the relevant application for a mortgage loan or capitalisation of family benefit. The six charges concerned certificates for three buyers between August 23, 1979 and March 4, 1980.
